We love working in close collaboration with our partners and associates. So when 1284 Communications approached us to work with them to design and build the INFINITY Technology Park website, we jumped at the chance. The website launch we managed with 1284 Communications announced one of the East Midlands’ biggest engineering projects to the public.
What the INFINITY technology park is and why the launch mattered
INFINITY is creating the UK’s only full-scale, high readiness site for the research, development and manufacture of fission, fusion and aerospace components. It sits on a 200-acre site at Infinity Park in Derby. It’s backed by three guarantors: the University of Derby, Loughborough University and the Manufacturing Technology Centre. The numbers behind it are substantial. Over £150 billion of sovereign UK programmes de-risked. More than 17,500 new skilled jobs. Over 1,500 trainees a year once fully operational.
A project at that scale needs clear communication to multiple audiences: Industry needed to understand the capability being built. Government stakeholders needed a clear strategic case. Investors and partners needed a simple way to engage. Each group needed something slightly different from the same public launch. That’s the brief 1284 and Bulb were brought in to solve; clear messaging and seamless design working together.
Working alongside 1284 Communications
1284 led the comms strategy, media relations and content marketing behind the launch. That included press materials, government briefing notes and coordinating professional photography with public figures including Chancellor John Healey MP. You can read the full detail of their work in 1284’s INFINITY case study.
We’ve worked with 1284 for several years and together we have developed efficient ways of combining our skillsets and have built work pipelines and a set of tools that deliver quality, efficiently and cost-effectively for our mutual clients. INFINITY is a perfect example of how close collaboration and working to strengths provides maximum value.
George Oliver founded and leads 1284. He set the agency up to bring proper strategic communications to ambitious East Midlands businesses. Prof. Gary Jones is INFINITY’s Chief Executive. Our job was to give both of them an INFINITY technology park website that could deliver their vision and the gravitas a project of this scale requires.
The INFINITY technology park website: a digital design, SEO and AEO perspective
1284 described the brief for the INFINITY technology park well: a scalable communications asset, not a static launch brochure. That framing defined every design decision. A launch website like this has to work immediately, in the first week of press coverage. It also has to still make sense two years later, once INFINITY has partners, tenants and its own news archive. Since that second stage was always coming, we designed the structure, the capability pages and the navigation with it in mind from day one.
The variety and diversity of the audience shaped the SEO and AEO thinking. A civil servant might search for INFINITY’s strategic case. A manufacturing partner might look for its capabilities instead. Meanwhile, a journalist might just want a fact to check on a deadline. We worked with 1284 to structure content, headings and page layouts around answering each of those questions directly. That’s the same principle behind how a search result or an answer engine decides what to ‘surface’: specific, direct answers to specific questions.
Search and AI visibility mattered from day one. A project this significant to UK industrial strategy needed to be found accurately the moment journalists, officials and partners started looking. Getting the technical foundations and structured content right at launch made that possible.
The wider context
The 1284-directed launch generated real reach. A potential media audience of 250,000 in its first week. Photography with two university vice-chancellors and the Manufacturing Technology Centre’s chief executive. Coverage of Chancellor John Healey MP’s visit and growth speech. You can read more on Loughborough University’s coverage of the launch and the Manufacturing Technology Centre’s report on the Chancellor’s visit.
You can see the finished INFINITY technology park website at infinity-tech.uk. If you’re planning a launch that needs to speak to different audiences at once, that’s exactly the kind of problem we enjoy working through – and we have the partners and associates poised to get your launch noticed.

Because different audiences, journalists, government stakeholders and industry partners, search for different things at once.
